Our free range hens have the freedom to move around outdoors during daylight hours. They are provided with clean, dry “ deep litter” nesting boxes where they can comfortably lay their eggs, and they also have constant access to dry feed and fresh drinking water. They are also safely protected from predators at all times. Farm Pride free range eggs only come from farms that are free range accredited. There is no variation in nutritional content of eggs laid in a free range environment, when compared to eggs produced in an alternative laying system. The only difference is with the hen’s environment. Free range hens enjoy access to an outdoor range area, while their water, food and nests are housed inside sheds. While an ideal environment is created for the hens, the resulting cost of producing free range eggs is higher than other traditional systems, and the shelf price reflects this.
